Ariana Grande, Jennette McCurdy, And Nathan Kress Give Advice To Fans
M Magazine has given fans the chance to ask their favorite stars advice on topics like parents, looks, and love. Who better to answer their questions then “Victorious” star Ariana Grande and “iCarly” stars Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress.
Check out the questions and advice below. Do you have similar questions? What do you think of Ariana, Jennette, and Nathan’s great advice?
Rosie, 13: “Hey Nathan. Most of my friends have laid-back parents who let them do pretty much whatevs. But not my mom and dad! They have rules for EVERYTHING. I can’t do so many thing everyone else in my crew does. Got any advice for me?
Nathan: “I think it’s all about changing your perspective on your parents’ rules. Most teens don’t realize that those rules have your best interest in mind — your parents are looking out for you. So maybe just try to understand that in the long run, everything is for your own good.”
Maria-Theresa, 12: “Hey Jennette, girls at my town’s community pool started calling me chubby when they saw me in my bikini. I know I have curves but I never thought I was overweight. Should I listen to them and go on a diet?”
Jennette: ” Believe me, we all go through body image issues. For me, it was looking at super tall and skinny models and getting insecure. Really, we all have different body types. All that matters is that you exercise, eat right and feel good about yourself.”
Priscilla, 10: “After waiting all year, my crush finally asked me out. I spent a week picking out an outfit and getting so excited about it. But when we finally went out, it was AWFUL. He was so awkward and we had a tough time keeping a convo going. Should I give up on our love, Ariana?”
Ariana: “OMG, I’ve had awkward dates like that. The best thing you can do is laugh it off and when you get home, just know the other person is probably trying to get over the weird date, too. I’d just text him a joke and then give a second date a try.”

Miranda Cosgrove talks iCarly (Nylon Magazine)
Are we embarrassed by the fact that we love a show that’s rated Y7 and airs on Nickelodeon? Well, the main character Carly produces her own webcasts, is funny as hell, is possibly one of the coolest teenage characters currently on TV (she’s played by Miranda Cosgrove, who’s definitely one of the coolest teenagers currently on TV). So no, actually, we’re not embarrassed at all – we love iCarly!
You’ve been doing this show for a while. Yeah, I’ve been doing it since I was 13, and I just turned 18. It’s a long time.
How was it originally pitched to you? When I was little, I was on another show on Nickelodeon called Drake & Josh, and the creator of that show ended up coming up with the idea for iCarly… He approached my mom and I when I was 12.
Will you be singing more on the show? I sing once on the show – actually twice, sorry! – and I sing the theme song, but really, the show isn’t a musical. It’s more just about a girl that’s sort of “underground famous” for making a web show.
Some of our readers aren’t iCarly fans… yet. Can you tell them what the show’s about? Yeah, sure. Basically, she lives in Seattle, and she lives with her older brother ‘cause her dad’s in the military. They never mention her mom—don’t really know what’s going on there. Kids always ask me that and I’m like, “I don’t know!” She lives with her brother and he’s kind of like a big kid in a way—I mean, he’s serious sometimes, but for the most part, he’s kind of like a big kid, and she’s sort of like his parent. She also has two best friends with her who always come over to her apartment all of the time.
So what’s the vibe like on set? Basically, we’ve all grown up together and we all know each other really well. At this point, it’s like being with your family. And I’ve worked at the studio where we film for such a long time, I just feel like it’s my home. We improv a lot, and we get to put a lot [of our improvs] into [the show]. We know the writers really well, so if we don’t think a line is really funny or we’re not doing it right, we can ask for help. We all work together.
Do you have a memorable episode or scene? It’s weird because we all kind of grew up on the show, and there’s a whole love triangle thing between my character and my friends Sam [a girl] and Freddie [a boy]. It’s kind of funny, because we both had to kiss Nathan [Kress], who plays Freddie, and that’s just kind of weird for us because we’ve all known each other for so long… but there’s an episode called I Saved Your Life where Freddie kind of saves Carly’s life, and she ends up liking him. That was a fun episode to do. That was probably the most memorable.
What TV shows do you watch? I love 30 Rock. I love Tina Fey. She’s really funny. What other shows do I watch? That’s really the main one. I do this thing where I go on iTunes and I download a season of something and I’ll watch it in a few days. So I like Freaks and Geeks and My So-Called Life.
If iCarly were to watch the show iCarly, how do you think she’d describe it? That’s a cool question. I think basically, she’s the kind of person that wants to be around her friends all of the time. She really is always with her brother and her two best friends—the four of them are always hanging out. And I like that because in real life, I’m with my family a lot. I’m on tour right now, and my mom came with me… I’ve got two best friends I’ve known since elementary school… I’m like her in that way. She seems like an overall happy person. She likes her life. She has some problems, but it’s mainly just teen stuff, and dating, and normal relationship stuff
How are you different from Carly? I think we’re different because I think she’s a little sweeter than me. She always tries to do the right thing and most of the time, it doesn’t end up going well for her. She goes in with the right intentions and it ends up being a disaster… I guess that actually isn’t that far from me. Maybe it is a little like me!
